Borres Residence

Borres House

Built in a narrow lot, only 8 meters wide, the design called for the use of firewalls on three sides. For natural lighting and ventilation, and for circulation, an atrium is located at the center of the property. This building is actually a multi-dwelling structure, with three individual units spaced out per floor. The main door opens to a foyer, from which all three units are accessed. Each unit has a corresponding secondary door.

About Us

ARE0109 - Version 2

About the Principal

Alex Evangelista graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Architecture in 1993. That same year he worked for his former professor, Architect Prosperidad C. Luis, at Luis and Associates (L and A), where he carefully learned the complexities of architectural practice. After a year and a half he resigned from L and A to prepare for the board exams, and in 1995 became a licensed architect.

He then took his Masters in Architecture, majoring in Urban Design, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, N.C., in the United States. Upon returning to the Philippines in 1997, he started teaching at his college alma matter (where he still teaches to this day), while taking up his second graduate program, this time in Urban Planning at the U.P. School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP). Later on, in 2008, he earned a certificate in Housing and Development Management in Lund University, Sweden.

His training and work experience likewise continued in 1997, when together with his college peers, he helped establish AEFD (Abiog, Evangelista, Fresnoza, David) Architects, and later on served as Architectural Consultant to Accura Construction, Inc. (2000-2001). In 2002, he teamed up with his colleagues from the U.P. College of Architecture to incorporate the Center for the Designed Environment Professionals (CDEP), a seminar and review center for licensure exams in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design.

In the meantime, he began working on personal projects from his home office, mostly residential, but also some institutional, commercial, and urban planning. After several years and numerous projects, he decided to formally set up his own group, Studio Evangelista.

Studio Team

Studio Evangelista is a group of architects composed of its principal and junior architects, either former students of Arch. Evangelista at U.P., or personally handpicked designers and apprentices. Arch. Mark Ong is in charge of construction and Arch. Lyjie Bernabe in charge of production. Arch. Andrea Gonzales Evangelista, with a Masters in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business in Diliman and École Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d’Angers in Budapest, Hungary, has come on board to deal with management of the group.

Since 2007, Studio Evangelista has designed several residential structures, in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, and Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The group has also completed commercial and institutional buildings including two U.P. Pampanga Campus buildings in Clark, and urban design and planning projects in Legazpi, Pampanga, and Bacolod City. Additionally, the group also engages in Acoustical Consultancies, including auditorium design.

Studio Evangelista projects have been a result of collaboration from the architects and engineers and the owners, and external factors like site conditions, neighbourhood restrictions, local codes, availability of materials, and budgets. While the group is open to designing according to themes, styles, and innovative technology, the ultimate solution is always guided by the desire to fully satisfy clients, with a focus on value, at par with industry standards, and with sincere commitment to see the project to its completion.
